UK can cope with solar superstorm +++



The Royal RAEng predict that a Solar superstorm world have serious effects on UK, but would not be catastrophic .
General satellite system including GPS, aviation system, avionics and communication would need to rely on backup system to continue.
Solar storm are commen and can affect space craft electronics and radio.
For example; the Carrington solar storm of 1859 caused widespread atmosphere changes and around the world.
In point they figured that National Grid has been in a good shape, however the big solar storm could heat in equipment to blown transformers, but they said that contingencies have problems because of the terrestrial weather.
According to this satellites will be affected also the experience might be shorten the lifetime of sub-system and components.
Keith Ryden said that satellites nowadays are designed to be flexible with space weather.
GPS timing should have a backup oscillation to commend the mobile phone network in UK.
RAEng recommends that UK space weather Board would set up by government to response space weather issue
